Columbia Academy 7, Centreville 1
Simpson Academy 5, Centreville 0
MCCOMB — It was not a good day for the Centreville Tigers at the Parklane Spring Break Tournament as they first lost to the Columbia Academy Cougars Tuesday morning and then lost to the Simpson Academy Cougars Tuesday afternoon.
Of course, it did not help Centreville that it played back-to-back games with the first game starting at 10 a.m. And if that wasn’t enough, both games went seven innings.
In the first game, the Tigers could muster up just five hits and they didn’t score their only run until the top of the fifth inning. However, Columbia Academy only had a 2-1 lead going after five and a half innings.
Then in the bottom of the sixth, Columbia Academy put the game out of reach by scoring five runs to take a 7-1 lead.
Even though Josh Lanehart was the losing pitcher, he ended up going 3-for-4 at the plate.
In the second game, Centreville finished with seven hits, two more than it had in the first game, but somehow could not push a single runner across home plate.
Simpson Academy took control of the game by scoring two runs each in the bottom of the first and second innings and let its pitching and defense do the rest. The Cougars finished with 10 hits, with two of their players having three hits each.
Centreville (2-5) will take on Copiah Academy today at 2:30 p.m. at the Parklane Tournament, weather permitting.
