McComb gets revenge over Natchez

Just three days after losing to Natchez High at Chester Willis field, the Tigers turned the tables by 10-run ruling the Bulldogs in six innings on their home field Friday afternoon, 11-1.
Natchez High head coach Charlie Williams felt like his team was not anywhere near being focused for the second game of a home-and-home series with the Class 4A Tigers.
“They didn’t come to play,” Williams said. “Their minds were somewhere else. We had the pitching to win, but the defense wasn’t there.”
McComb, which lost to the Bulldogs 8-2 on Tuesday afternoon, was more than ready to avenge that loss. And winning pitcher Dylon Boyd was one of the reasons as he had a double-digit strikeout performance while holding the Bulldogs to just three hits.
“(Boyd) had 11 strikeouts and eight were looking. They didn’t have their minds on the game,” Williams said.
Another key to the Tigers’ win was putting pressure on Natchez High pitcher Thomas Hughes as well as its defense.
McComb scored two runs in the bottom of the first, one in the bottom of the second and three in the bottom of the third to open up a 6-1 lead. Natchez High (8-6) got its only run off a home run by Cameron Logan. The Bulldogs’ other two hits were by Desmond Smoot.
After scoring one run in the bottom of the fifth, the Tigers ended the game with four runs in the bottom of the sixth.
“We beat them 8-2 (earlier this week). They came to play today,” Williams said.
Alonzo Harris and Kenny Artigues each went 2-for-4 and Dantrell Sergeant had a home run for McComb (9-6).
