The Huntington Hounds split a doubleheader with Claiborne Academy Saturday afternoon, winning the first game 10-3 while losing the second game to the Rebels 11-9.

In the first game, Josh Lee overcame a sluggish first inning in which he gave up three runs by holding Claiborne Academy scoreless in the final four innings.

Lee also went 2-for-2 with two doubles as Huntington finished with eight hits. The Hounds didn’t have to bat in the bottom of the fifth after scoring in each of the first four innings.

The second game had a similar start for the Rebels, but they scored even more runs in the top of the first inning than they did in the first game. They had a 7-0 led after one inning of play and increased their lead to 9-0 before Huntington (4-6) could even score its first run, which was in the bottom of the third.

Huntington rallied with six runs in the bottom of the fourth to cut the lead to 9-7, but two runs by the Rebels in the top of the fifth proved to be huge as they held on for the win. Claiborne Academy was aided in the second game by five Huntington errors.

Jason Tuggle picked up the win for the Rebels and he went 2-for-4 with a double. Trey Corbett led Huntington at the plate by going 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles.

Earlier in the week, Huntington lost a tough one to Franklin Academy in Winnsboro, La., 16-14 in a non-district game Thursday night before rebounding with a 9-3 win over Tensas Academy Friday afternoon to improve to 2-0 in MPSA District 7-A.
