The Giants scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to pull away from a pesky Monterey team Saturday afternoon.
Class 3A Jena was out-hit by Class B Monterey five to four in the game, but took advantage of five errors committed by the Wolves. But despite the loss, Monterey head coach Hank Zizzi was pleased with his team’s performance.
“We played much better today,” Zizzi said. “And if we play like we did today when district comes, we’ll do alright.”
Billy Metcalf went 2-for-4 with a double for Monterey (2-10). J. Moss had a double for Jena.
