A vehicle wreck Wednesday afternoon left one man with minor injuries and a few businesses along U.S. 84 without power.

The wreck occurred around 5 p.m. on the westbound lane of U.S. 84 across from the First Assembly of God Church.

CPSO Sgt. Jack Fletcher said that from what he could gather, the green Pontiac G6 car hit a red S10 Chevrolet truck in the rear, sending it across the highway, through a telephone pole and west through a field.

The car skidded about 430 feet across the field and then came to a stop near the S&S Store-all facility.

The telephone pole was left hanging by its wires and some businesses along the highway lost power.

The driver of the Pontiac was Jamie Hebert, 29, of Jena, and the driver of the Chevrolet was Alex Stewart Jr., 62 of Vidalia.

Stewart was transported by American Medical Response to Natchez Regional Medical Center.

Sarah Stanley works at S&S Store-all and experienced the after effects of the accident.

“I heard what sounded like power lines pop twice and waited for the lights to come back on,” she said. “When they didn’t I said to myself, ‘maybe I should go check on this.’”

When she walked outside, Stanley said she saw Stewart out of his truck and getting assistance by AMR.

“He looked like he was still in shock, then I saw him touch his neck a few times,” Stanley said. “Then the EMTs laid him back down in his truck, to check on him, then took him to the hospital.”

Hebert would not comment on the accident.

The Louisiana State Police arrived an hour later and are conducting the investigation of the accident.
