Ferriday Police have identified at least one suspect that was allegedly involved in the shooting Wednesday night.

The suspect is identified as Terrence Nix, 39, originally from New Orleans, Police Chief Richard Madison said.

“What I can tell you is that (the case) is still under investigation and that the boy we suspect has an extensive criminal record,” Madison said.

“Attempted murder, many drug charges, possession (of drugs) with intent (to distribute), the whole nine yards.”

But no arrests have been made because the suspect cannot be found.

“Our information is that he has possibly skipped town,” Madison said. “We can’t go out of town to get the guy.”

At about 7:53 p.m. Wednesday, two men were shot and wounded in the parking lot of Concordia Apartments on Kyle Road.

One man was in a vehicle and the other was getting out of the vehicle when a man shot at them, hitting one in the upper arm and the other in the finger.

Madison said Derrick Butler, 29, had to have his arm amputated at the Louisiana State Hospital in Shreveport.

The other victim was Antonio Hawkins, Madison said.

One of the victim’s girlfriend and her two children were in the car during the incident, but they were not harmed.

The shooting was a continuation of a 2 p.m. altercation earlier that day on Doty Road, when a group of people, including one of the shooting victims, jumped the suspect, Madison said.

The altercation continued Wednesday evening when the suspect reportedly shot the two men.

Madison said he has been getting conflicting stories from the victims but that one of the stories he has been told is that the suspect allegedly shot the victims because one of them dumped trash in the suspect’s mother’s yard.

But Madison said the victims’ story “just doesn’t jive.”

“You’re trying to tell me that this guy tried to kill somebody over throwing trash in his mother’s yard?” he said.

Madison said two other suspects are persons of interest in the case and that FPD are trying to locate and interview them.
