NATCHEZ — A building that once housed a popular Under-The-Hill restaurant has been approved for demolition.

The Natchez Preservation Commission voted 5-2 Wednesday to allow Biglane Investments to demolish its property at 57 Silver St., site of the former Natchez Landing restaurant.

Bruce Kuehnle, who spoke on behalf of Biglane Investments, said the building is in significant disrepair, and very few original features have survived.

“There’s not a lot of historic texture or design to the building,” Kuehnle said. “It’s of little economic value to the owner at this point.”

Biglane Investments has submitted a design plan for the site, but there are no plans to develop the property, Kuehnle said.

Commissioners Shirley Petkovsek and Anne Allmand voted against the demolition.

In other business:

The commission unanimously approved a building addition request at 608 Washington St.

City Building Inspector Paul Dawes informed the commission he will issue citations to the owners of 815 N. Martin Luther King Jr. St., and 819 N. Union St. Both properties have been deemed demolition by neglect.
