Corey Dickerson’s three-run home run in the bottom in the bottom of the first inning gave Brookhaven Academy a 3-2 lead over Trinity Episcopal and seemed to give the Cougars some momentum.
But it was the pitching that led Brookhaven Academy down Monday night as the Cougars walked 11 batters and hit three batters, which helped the Saints take a big win on the road.
Trinity (6-8) took advantage of the Cougars’ wild pitching by scoring seven runs en route to a 7-4 lead at the end of the third inning. Brookhaven Academy scored two runs in the bottom of the fourth to make it a 7-6 game.
Despite all the miscues by their pitchers, the Cougars stayed in the game by keeping the Saints scoreless in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings. But Trinity scored two key runs in the top of the seventh inning.
Clint Easom had a double and Matt Barnes went 2-for-5 as the Saints out-hit the Cougars seven to five. Dickerson went 2-for-3 with the home run and a double.
