NATCHEZ — In addition to a Wednesday arrest for stealing 16 metal drainage tops from the City of Natchez, Jeromy Stewart is now facing charges for theft of five air-conditioning units he reportedly helped swipe from local churches.
The Natchez Police Department charged Stewart, 30, 1006 N. Union St., with two counts of grand larceny for the theft of 13 city drainage tops from Zoa Lane and three from Madison Street.
On Thursday, NPD charged Stewart with another count of grand larceny for the alleged theft of three six-foot steel beams and a manhole cover from a Natchez Water Works job site on Old Washington Road.
The Adams County Sheriff’s Office also has a warrant Stewart’s arrest stemming from his alleged involvement in the theft of air conditioning units from three area churches.
Investigators believe Stewart, along with Morris Tyrone Washington and Christopher Donte Johnson, participated in the thefts in the county.
During October and November, the suspects reportedly stole five 3- to 5-ton central air-conditioning units from three area churches.
The sheriff’s office has warrants to charge Stewart, Washington and Johnson with three counts of grand larceny each.
Both Natchez Police Chief Danny White and Sheriff Chuck Mayfield said cooperation with local metal vendors, including Pac Man Auto Crushers in Vidalia, led to investigators to Stewart.
NPD has given Stewart a $50,000 bond for a total of three charges of grand larceny. Stewart will face the charges in the county once he is released to the sheriff’s office upon making bond with the city.
