Two men were arrested after allegedly participating in a shooting match from inside two vehicles Thursday afternoon.
Natchez police received a call at about 2 p.m. Thursday that drivers of two vehicles were firing at each other in the area of West Stiers Lane and Daisy Street, Chief Mike Mullins said.
Officers stopped a vehicle on Grant Street and arrested the two men in the car.
Peter Jones III, 24, 1211 Millette St., was charged with possession of cocaine with intent to distribute in a school zone and carrying a weapon by a convicted felon.
Mullins said he did not have information about Jones’ prior conviction.
Jones reportedly had roughly 15 grams of cocaine in his possession at the time, Mullins said.
Jeremy Beckem, 24, 115 Oriole Terrace, was charged with possession of cocaine with intent to distribute in a school zone. He had roughly eight grams of cocaine, Mullins said.
Police found three guns in the vehicle in which Jones and Beckem were riding — two .380-caliber pistols and a 12-gauge shotgun, he said.
“There was also a bullet hole in the hood of that car,” Mullins said. “Shortly after that, the other person involved, his family members brought a rental van up to the police department. It had two bullet holes in its passenger side.”
Police are attempting to locate the third suspect, and family members are cooperating, Mullins said.
“We had witnesses that saw shots fired,” he said. “We’re investigating that now.”
To his knowledge, no one was injured, Mullins said.
“At this point, this is a result of an altercation these individuals had earlier in another location,” he said.
Mullins said he expected to have an arrest warrant for the third suspect later Thursday evening.
No bond has been set for Jones or Beckem.
