The Block Lady Bears didn’t take long to take down the Ringgold Lady Redskins Monday afternoon in a District 3-1A varsity doubleheader.
Misty Davis pitched a no-hitter as Block took a 17-0 win over Ringgold in game one. A pair of run-scoring doubles by Ashley Kirby and Jennifer Squyres in the first inning allowed the Lady Bears to defeat the Lady Redskins 12-2 in the second game.
And it took a mere three innings for Block (14-11, 7-3) to defeat a completely overmatched Ringgold team in each of the two games.
In the first game, Davis had her way with the Lady Redskins as she allowed just one runner to reach base, and that was on a walk. At the plate, Ashley Kirby was unstoppable as she went 3-for-3. Kirby hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the first inning as the Lady Bears jumped out to a 4-0 lead.
But it was the bottom of the second inning that Kirby and her teammates did the real damage. The Lady Bears batted around in the second and Kirby got to bat again. With the bases loaded, Kirby belted a double to bring in three runners. She finished with seven runs batted in and scored three runs.
The second game wasn’t much better for Ringgold (0-10 in District 3-1A), but the Lady Redskins did manage two runs, both in the top of the third inning, and three hits off Davis, who struck out two and walked three.
Kirby had just one hit in the second game, but it was a big one as she brought in one run with a double, and Squyres added a two-run double as Block once again took a 4-0 lead after one inning of play.
Bennett had an RBI double in the bottom of the second, during which the Lady Bears scored five runs for a 9-0 lead. They ended the game by scoring three runs in the bottom of the third.
