Adams County Christian School will host the fourth annual Kramer Fife Memorial Relays Thursday starting at 9:30 a.m.
The relay was named after the late ACCS coach, and since his death, the meet has been held in his memory.
Eleven schools will be participating in both junior high and varsity events today.
“It’s the biggest meet of the year,” ACCS track coach Warren Whitaker said.
“We build it up, and have a good number of sponsors. This year we will be giving T-shirts to the top three winners in the junior high and high school divisions.
Whitaker said the field is strong, and the defending girls state champion, Silliman, will be competing.
This will be the first of three meets ACCS will host in the next six days. Following the relays, ACCS will host the junior high district meet on Monday, and the varsity district meet on Wednesday.
As district approaches for both his teams, Whitaker said he is optimistic about their chances. Varsity high jumper Ariana DeLaSalle is going for her third consecutive state high jump title this year, and Alex Foster has been competitive in the discus.
For the varsity boys, Whitaker said John Carl Johnson should do well in the shot put as the season winds down, and pole vaulters Matt Guedon and Jesse Thompson have competed well recently.
Whitaker said his varsity team doesn’t have as much depth as his junior high squad, but said once the junior high season is completed, several athletes will compete on the varsity level before the season ends.
“Once we move junior high up, we will have a fair team on the varsity level,” he said. “The strength in the junior high has been distance events.”
And with his junior high team developing successfully, Whitaker said things are looking good for the Rebels track program in the future.
“Overall we have many good young athletes, and the future looks bright for the track program at ACCS.”
