Area residents may not be able to buy just anything at Saturday’s Spring Flea Market, but there will be plenty of items for sale.

The market, in its first year but slated to become an annual event, will be at the Vidalia Riverwalk.

The event is being hosted by the Vidalia Landing Flea Market, the same organization that hosts the annual fall market that coincides with the Natchez balloon races.

“We are trying to establish a spring craft show to go in conjunction with the last weekend of pilgrimage,” said event organizer Bill Hancock.

“We thought that we’d offer the pilgrims something different to do,” event co-organizer Carl Sayers said.

The market will be in the grassy area north of the Mississippi River Bridge along the Riverwalk. Gates will open to the public at 8 a.m. and the event will last until 5 p.m.

“We wanted to have it in the convention center, but since that wasn’t ready we’ll be having it on the (Riverwalk) grounds,” Sayers said.

The event should have 35-40 vendors, and 28 are already confirmed, Sayers said.

“Some will show up that morning because they don’t want to set up in case of inclement weather,” Sayers said. “We’re going to have it rain or shine.”

Items to be sold should include antiques, crafts, glass, junk, tools, parts, pottery, ironwork, hardware, jewelry, toys and collectables.

“We’ll have a pretty good variety of things,” Sayers said.

“We enjoy having the opportunity to offer the citizens of Natchez and Vidalia something to do,” he said.

Security will be provided by routine patrols by the Vidalia Police Department.

The event will be within walking distance of the Vidalia Fire Department’s Vittles and Fiddles festival, which will take place at the Riverview RV park from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m.
