With Cathedral hosting the Region 7-1A Tournament at Chester Willis Field, Trinity Episcopal’s home game against Tensas Academy was played at ACCS.

Even playing on the field of its cross-city rival didn’t matter as the Saints, led by Kolby Godfrey’s performance on the mound and a home run by Taylor Hinson, rolled to a 12-1 win over the Chiefs Friday afternoon in four and a half innings in an MPSA District 7-A game.

Hinson’s home run was a solo shot in the bottom of the third inning during which Trinity scored two runs to take a 9-2 lead. It was not only his first home run as a Saint, but also his first lifetime home run.

“When you hit a home run, you don’t have to run as hard,” said Hinson, who went 2-for-3 with a double and the home run.

The win was an important one for Trinity (9-1) as it improved to 5-2 in district play to remain in a tie for second place with WCCA, who defeated Tallulah Academy 8-2.

Tensas didn’t have much success against Godfrey and the only run the Chiefs scored was in the top of the first inning. Godfrey allowed only three hits, one being a double by Jim Lentz, and the defense behind him was flawless.

Trinity also got a double from Clint Easom and Kyle Ketchings went 2-for-3 as the Saints got nine hits off losing pitcher J.T. James.
