Even a little rain cannot dampen the giving spirit of the Miss-Lou, as the annual Vittles and Fiddles festival illustrated Saturday.

The event, among the good news headlines of the week, is a fundraiser for the Vidalia Fire Department. Crowds were smaller Saturday, but the music played, and in rolled the money.

Let’s review the other good news of the week:

The Vidalia Garden Club gave a facelift to the Tourist Welcome Center on U.S. 84 last week. The women worked to spruce up the outside of the building with new flowers, and they hope their work will be contagious.

The club wants other local groups to catch the fever to get involved in community projects, in turn making all of Vidalia better. Groups such as the garden club are what make our community tick, and we hope their “illness” is, in fact, catching.

In Natchez, another group built their community project from the ground up. Eleven Isle of Capri employees got to work on Smith Lane working on the latest Habitat for Humanity house.

As a corporate partner of the Miss-Lou, the Isle recognizes the importance of service to local residents. We are happy to see them trade office work for a hammer on a Saturday morning and truly making a difference in someone’s life.

We are sure the next week will bring out just as many volunteers.
