Jordan Dossett hit two doubles and Matthew Freeman had a triple as the Saints broke open a close game with six runs in the bottom of the fifth inning as they defeated the Rebels Monday night at Chester Willis Field.
Trinity (10-10) jumped out to a 3-0 lead at the end of the first inning and held a 4-0 lead after three innings of play before Amite School Center made a game of it. The Rebels cut the deficit to 5-4 with one run in the top of the fourth inning and three in the top of the fifth.
But the Saints put away the Rebels with the six-run outburst in their half of the fifth inning and added another run in the bottom of the sixth. Dossett went 2-for-3 and Freeman was 2-for-4 for Trinity, which finished with 10 hits and took advantage of seven errors.
Winning pitcher Parker Brumfield helped his cause by going 2-for-4 at the plate. Amite School Center was led by Justin Baggett and T.J. Hood, who each went 2-for-4.
