The Vidalia Lady Vikings are moving on in the LHSAA Class 1A playoffs after a decisive 15-4 win over the Livonia Lady Wildcats Tuesday afternoon in the bi-district round.

Vidalia (18-11-1) will take on Mamou in the regional round either Thursday or Friday at a time to be determined. Mamou, a wild-card team after finishing fifth in District 6-2A, upset District 8-1A champion Episcopal Tuesday night.

“I’m just thrilled,” Lady Vikings head coach Jeannie Hall said. “I had told the girls to play relaxed and I think they did.”

Livonia, a wild-card team which finished third in District 7-2A, scored two runs off Vidalia pitcher Brittany Whittington in the top of the first inning, but didn’t have much success after that. Whittington struck out six in five innings to pick up the win.

“Her pitches were on today,” Hall said.

Meanwhile, the Lady Vikings took the lead for good with five runs in the bottom of the first. They added two runs in the bottom of the second and eight in the bottom of the third.

“Our pitcher had a great game. We hit the ball. Our defense made (one) error,” Hall said. “We ran the bases well. We had some very good strong hits. They were communicating well.”

Mary Katherine Golden went 3-for-3 with a single, a double and a triple. Two of her hits ended up hitting the top of the fence. Bridget Waller was 2-for-3 with a double, Ashley Fuqua hit two doubles, and Chelsea Warren was 2-for-4 with a triple.

After the first inning, Livonia didn’t score again until the top of the fifth inning on a two-run home run by Brandi, who went 2-for-3.
