Parish Health Unit to see improvements

The parish will soon renovate the Concordia Parish Health Unit, but the work won’t cost the police jury a dime.

Parish health units are extensions of the Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals. Services that they offer include immunization, prenatal care and HIV and AIDS services.

Police Jury Secretary Russell Wagoner said at Monday night’s meeting that he would draft a letter to architects who work for the state Department of Health and Human Resources, and the process would go from there.

The health unit is located on Mickey Gilley Drive in Ferriday.

“If you haven’t been out (to the health unit), I recommend that you go,” Wagoner said. “A lot of parishes don’t have that good of an operation.”

If that was the case, the board should write a letter commending officials for their outstanding job at the unit, Juror Joe Parker Sr. said.

The motion was unanimously approved.

The jury also discussed problems with Concordia Waterworks lines.

Some of the older water lines are laid under the middle of some roads, and if a leak occurs, the road will have to be torn up, Ferrington said.

If such action is needed, Waterworks wants to repair the roads with the help of the police jury, he said.

Waterworks will pay for the costs incurred, he said.
