A fundraiser for the Natchez Festival of Music will be held at The Towers, home of Ginger Hyland, at 7 p.m. Saturday.

The “Music at The Towers” event will feature classical pianist Hyperion Knight, a native of California who graduated at age 19 from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music.

By the age of 22, Knight had received both a master’s degree and a doctorate degree from the Cleveland Institute of Music. He was awarded the Arthur Loesser prize upon graduation.

Knight now lives in New York City and studies with members of the Julliard School of Music faculty. He made his New York concerto debut playing the Saint-Saens Piano Concerto No. 1.

Knight has made a specialty of virtuoso piano transcriptions in the tradition of Liszt and Horowitz. His album of song transcriptions, “Gershwin by Knight,” was reviewed in Stereophile, which said, “Hyperiod Knight plays with marvelous verve and spectacular confidence.”

Knight is equally at home in serious classics and popular standards. He is known for the diversity of his repertoire, with recordings ranging from Beethoven to The Beatles.

In addition to regular appearances with orchestras across the United States, he has been a featured entertainer at Manhattan’s Rainbow Room and Essex House.

The Saturday event will begin with wine and welcome at 7 p.m. The concert will be at 7:30 p.m., with hors d’oeuvres following.

“Music at The Towers” is a black-tie event, $100 per person, and benefits the 2007 season of the Festival of Music.

Checks may be made out to and mailed to Natchez Festival of Music, P.O. Box 2207, Natchez, MS 39121.
