VIDALIA — A Ferriday man accused of attempted second degree murder in connection with a December 2006 incident will go to trial July 31.

Jonathan Green, 18, 1133 Levee Heights, Ferriday, is also accused of aggravated burglary and simple burglary.

The attempted murder charges stem from a “reverse” drive-by shooting Dec. 7 in the Levee Heights subdivision.

A reverse drive-by occurs when a bystander discharges a firearm at a moving vehicle.

Green allegedly fired four shots at a car in which a 23-year-old Natchez man was riding, striking him in the leg. A driver was also in the car.

The shooting appeared to be an escalation of an earlier incident between the victim and the mother of the victim’s child, Concordia Parish Sheriff’s Office Investigator Jimmy Darden said at the time.

Green was out on bond when the incident occured for several charges, including carrying a firearm in a school zone, carrying a concealed weapon, entry onto property after being forbidden, possession of schedule II drugs with intent to distribute, simple arson and two counts of simple burglary, Sheriff Randy Maxwell said at the time.

Two other individuals face aggravated burglary charges in the case.

During the burglary, Green allegedly had a gun and said he was going to shoot anyone who entered the building being broken-into, Assistant District Attorney Ronnie McMillin said.

A status hearing for the case was Wednesday.

At a status hearing, the defendants are brought before the court and different plea options are discussed, Assistant District Attorney Ronnie McMillin said.

The judge explains possible sentencing for a guilty plea, and if a defendant enters a guilty plea, they will be sentenced and used as a witness in the case if there are multiple parties involved, he said.

A defendant who enters a plea of not guilty will continue to trial as a defendant, he said.
