Circuit Clerk M.L. “Binkey” Vines made good his bounced checks to the county Friday, county bookkeepers said.
Vines wrote checks to the county May 11 that bounced, Chancery Clerk Tommy O’Beirne said. The checks for $39,387 paid off a five-month debt to the county, he said.
The county pays for the circuit clerk’s employees, and Vines is supposed to reimburse the funds on a monthly basis.
Checks from Vines have bounced off and on for about a year, O’Beirne said.
Vines turned in checks for January through May on Friday.
The circuit clerk’s employees, who work for the circuit clerk, not the county, are paid from the county’s general fund, the same money pool that pays most county employees and pays bills.
