Sheriff’s deputies confiscated an unloaded .25 caliber automatic pistol from at Ferriday Junior High School late last week.
The Concordia Parish Sheriff’s Office school resource officer Lee Ford took the weapon from a 14-year-old student.
A CPSO release said the student had been showing the weapon to classmates, who reported it to teachers.
Though the weapon was not loaded, the teen had two bullets with him.
The teen faces charges of possession of a firearm on school property.
The school district will have a hearing to make a determination about consequences for student soon, Superintendent Kerry Laster said.
Laster said Principal James Davis handled the situation, notifying her by phone on the day it occurred. The boy’s parents were also contacted.
The student faces possible expulsion, Laster said.
He had no background of disciplinary problems.
Davis was unable to be reached for comment.
