Hope for unity has led one Ferriday couple to organize an area-wide day of prayer.
The day of prayer will be 2 p.m. Sunday along U.S. 84 from Ferriday to Vidalia.
So far, four area churches — The Pentecostals of the Miss-Lou, Ferriday Church of God, Bible Missionary Church in Vidalia and Vidalia Missionary Baptist Church — have pledged participation in the event, event organizer Krystal Stevens said.
The event will have at least five stations for participants to stop and pray at, but more may be added, she said.
The five stations are the participating churches plus the Ferriday Bayou Memorial Park, Stevens said.
Those wanting to participate may choose whichever station they wish, and may go to as many as they wish, she said.
“Our purpose is just to allow everybody to pray,” she said.
Plans for the day started with a burden on her husband Bo’s heart to see local churches unite together, Stevens said.
They attend church at Lismore Baptist Church in Monterey, but the Stevens’ decided to organize the event along the Ferriday-Vidalia highway because they live in Ferriday.
“We started talking to different area churches and did whatever we needed to do go get (the message of unity) heard,” Stevens said.
The day of prayer will not focus on any specific issues or themes, but participants will be encouraged to pray for guidance to make right decisions on a community, parish and even national level, Stevens said.
Participants will also have the opportunity to ask for prayer for themselves, she said.
