A Ferriday teen stands accused of attempted murder in connection with a Memorial Day shooting in Ferriday. Another man faces aggravated assault charges in connection with a Tuesday incident.
David N. Green, 17, 704 Fifth St., was arrested and charged with attempted second degree murder Tuesday.
Green and another individual were allegedly involved in an altercation when the shooting’s victim stepped in and intervened, Ferriday Police Chief Richard Madison said.
Green then allegedly grabbed a gun from a bystander and fired it, Madison said.
The victim, a Ferriday man in his early 30s, was struck in the right leg and is expected to make a full recovery, Madison said.
Another Ferriday man, Daniel D. Butler, 26, 359 Doty Road, was arrested for aggravated assault with a weapon in an unrelated incident Tuesday.
The incident occurred on 10th Street.
Butler was arrested after he allegedly pointed a gun at someone and discharged it within the city limits, Madison said.
The matter is still under investgation, Madison said.
Police officials are talking with District Attorney John Johnson about prosecuting both instances to the fullness of the law, Madison said.
“The citizens of Ferriday deserve to be safe in their residences,” he said.
The police department has curtailed violence in the city, Madison said, but have not gotten the level as low as they want it.
“Everyone in Ferriday is packing (weapons),” he said.
Because of that, Mayor Gene Allen has instructed Madison to train officers in the use of non-lethal weapons such as tasers, Madison said.
Officers will begin non-lethal weapon training in July, he said.
