Farm Service Agency County Committee seeking nominations
Published 1:00 am Sunday, June 3, 2007
The Farm Service Agency’s farmer elected County Committee system is your most direct voice in the day-to-day workings of the U.S. Department of Agriculture — and the local farming community needs your help.
Farm Service Agency (FSA) county committees make decisions of commodity price support loans and payments; establish yields, eligibility on conservation programs; incentive, and disaster programs. In short, the FSA County Committee is a critical part of the USDA’s delivery system in our community.
The County Committee is your voice in USDA’s programs.
The County Committee system needs everyone – both as voters and as active participants as candidates for membership. This fall the nation-wide County Office Committee system will elect approximately one-third of its members for the next three years. FSA is seeking nominations from producers and groups representing socially disadvantaged producers in the county. Socially disadvantaged group means a group whose members have been subjected to racial, ethnic, or gender prejudice because of their identity as members of a group without regards to their individual qualities. If you’re interested, you have something to offer and can help your community. Now is the time to plan ahead to participate in the fall election. Get in touch with the Adams County FSA and ask how you can help.
Those elected to the FSA County Committee will become part of a nation-wide network of farmers, ranchers, and others with a unique opportunity to help the futures of all local producers. The FSA County Committee represents government at its best – local in nature and focus, bringing the expertise and resources of USDA together with those who stand to benefit the most.
Every eligible person is strongly encouraged to participate in this upcoming election.
