Remember all who fought for freedom

To remember our soldiers who died serving our country is truly showing love, honor and respect four their lives.

Many citizens remembered their loved ones, but what about the 17 soldiers and one Purple Heart recipient in Watkins Cemetery? Didn’t they sacrifice their lives too? Shouldn’t they be remembered by someone at least once a year?

Knowing the history of Natchez and the many prejudices may answer why the families chose not to bury them in the National Cemetery. Still, a few of the graves were decorated by the non-profit Worthy Women of Watkins St. Cemetery Association who attempt to clear, clean and maintain the thousands of Natchezian graves with little or no help.

We should remember those who died for us no matter where they’re buried.
