People made last week a good one

People make the Miss-Lou tick, and this week the people made the good news.

Boy Scouts, a postman and Habitat for Humanity volunteers all made headlines this week, leaving a warm feeling in our hearts about this community. Let’s review the week’s good new.

4The last two Johnson boys earned their Eagle Scout designation this week, bringing the family tally up to five. Chad, Forrest, Jay and now Andrew and Alex have worked through the scouting ranks to earn the group’s highest honor.

Andrew, 20, landscaped at the Adams County Sheriff’s Office to earn his Eagle. His younger brother Alex repainted the Red Cross building on Union Street.

4Postman Bernard Riley has been a walking hero for months now. The mail carrier went beyond the call of duty in February when he discovered an injured, elderly customer lying on the ground. Riley called for help and stayed with the woman, making sure she was safe and warm.

4Saturday, Katrina evacuee Louis Roach received his first real Natchez house with the help of a few friends. Habitat for Humanity President Andrew Calvit, Secretary Duncan McFarlane and a long list of volunteers made Roach’s dream come true.

Roach’s house is the first local Habitat house equipped to accommodate a physical disability.

4And two Natchez boys are sure to be just a little pooped at this point. Jakob Mercer and Nathan Jones were recipients of the Make-A-Wish Foundation’s trip to Disney World this weekend.

Both boys have coped with life-threatening diseases and deserve every minute with Mickey they can get.

Miss-Lou people gave and Miss-Lou people received this week. And we are sure the giving spirit will continue this week and throughout the summer.
