For almost 40 years I’ve made the lonely trip to the Jackson VA hospital alone. On June 7, I had a more rewarding trip — in the VA van. With gas prices at a high level it takes about $35 to go and return.

Veterans know that the travel pay is $15.20 if you are eligible. Do the math. Thanks to Mr. Erle Drane our veterans service officer we have something we can take advantage of. If you can schedule your appointment for Tuesday or Thursday and call in to the Veterans Service office and notify Mr. Drane you are set. My driver for the day was Donnie and it was the best trip I’ve had by far. The passenger seat is not bad on such a familiar trip. To be a veteran is something I’m very proud of, and to know that we have people in place to help is something we can be proud of too.

So to all of our volunteer drivers, keep up the good work and thanks for being there for us. Mr. Drane thanks for the great help. To our veterans, take advantage of this wonderful opportunity, and let someone else do the driving. You too will find the trip rewarding.
