VIDALIA — A fire temporarily shut down the Sonic on Carter Street Thursday night.
The Vidalia Fire Department was on the scene by 8:30.
“If I had to guess the it was an electrical fire,” Vidalia Fire Department Chief Jack Langston said. “There was minimal damage from the fire.”
No one was injured and all of the Sonic staff was safely in the parking lot when fire officials arrived. None of the Sonic employees would comment.
Jamarius Hunt, who works at the Burger King directly next to Sonic said he looked outside and realized all of Sonic’s lights has been turned out.
“I just saw the lights off I really don’t know what happened,” Hunt said.
Fire officials tore open the area where the fire started to make sure they had fully extinguished it. Inside the wall was burnt insulation and some singed remains. The white bricks on the outside of the Sonic had very little soot on them and the parking lot looked as if a small rainstorm had quickly passed over.
“Taking a part the wall did more damage than the fire,” Langston said. “The was contained between the inner and outer walls but if it had got to the attic it might have been bad.”
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
