Children fill week with good news

School’s out, but the Miss-Lou children haven’t slowed down one bit.
Let’s review some of the good news our children and teens created this week.
4Brittany Scott, 15, has never let her lack of sight slow her down, and now it’s her fast fingers that are taking her places. The Vidalia native will represent her state at the National Braille Challenge this week.
At the competition, Scott will read Braille passages, translating and answering questions about what she’s read. But the teen knows what’s important — she says she’s not nervous; she’ll just do her best.
4Matthew Dobson, 13, Jamie Stewart, 16, and Zach Rogel, 20, were a lifesaving trio several weeks ago when 5-year-old Chase Charpentier nearly drowned at the Moose Lodge swimming pool. The group worked together to spot the boy, pull him out and start CPR. And now, Chase is fine.
Chase and his rescuers were honored by the Moose Lodge this week and presented with plaques for their experiences.
4Elementary school student Andrew Anders has fought his battle and come out on the winning side. The Cathedral student became leukemia-free this year, and this week, he celebrated with a new friend.
Anders and family joined a welcoming party for Elena Lockwood, who was in town as part of a Make-A-Wish trip. Lockwood has a rare, life-threatening disease and is headed to Disney World.
Anders understands much of what the 12-year-old is going through, and it’s great to see the boy offering much-needed support.
Area children have a long summer ahead of them, and we are sure they’ll cram it full of good news and fun days.
