WOODVILLE — A Woodville man was arrested Saturday for allegedly shooting a man in his leg, officials said Sunday.
Robert Glen Prine, 57, P.O. Box 21, Woodville, was arrested on charges of aggravated assault, Wilkinson County Sheriff Reginald L. Jackson said.
“We received a phone call at 11:30 a.m. (Saturday) that there was a shooting on Jackson Point, down near the Mississippi River,” Jackson said.
Shane Joseph Meche, 1156 River Road, Denham Springs, La., reported that he and his family and friends were riding four-wheelers when a truck sped past them, nearly hitting them, Jackson said.
“Later, both the vehicle and the four-wheelers met up, and words passed between them,” he said. “The driver got out of the truck with a pistol and aggressively approached them with the weapon.”
Meche reported the driver pointed his gun at him and asked him to beg for his life, Jackson said.
“From that point, the two got into a scuffle — a fight — and there were two shots fired, one bullet striking Mr. Meche in his right leg,” Jackson said.
Meche was transported to Field Memorial Community Hospital in Centreville, treated and released, Jackson said.
No bond has been set for Prine.
