Adams County Mississippi Homemaker Volunteers recently attended the state convention in Mississippi.

Along with President Lee J. Braxton, attending were members Bonita D. reed, Mae Stanton, Ernestine Stanton, Ruby West, Dorothy Champ, Josie McClorine and Dr. David Carter, county director.

Members entered contests and brought home one third place and three first place state awards. Ernestine Stanton’s first place was in Environmental, Mae Stanton’s first place was in Special Projects, Lillian C. Edney’s first place was for Special Feature Article (She entered a project but did not attend the convention) and L.J. Braxton’s third place was in Family Living. These members are all from Catherine William’s Club.

Having the opportunity to represent your county on the state level is extremely gratifying to the volunteers who participate. This is the reason each year, I try extremely hard and with much determination as I can possibly muster to get persons in Adams County to get involved in MHV or some volunteer program on a regular basis.

MHV is one of the ways you can give back to your community with little or no effort. Providing for the needy is two-fold. The volunteer is helped as well as the receiver. There is no better way to use your time and talents than help someone less fortunate than you.

MHV members do not meet in May and June but will begin with gusto in July. There are projects that have to be sent to Children’s Hospital in Jackson as well as local activities that are going on here in Adams County.

My reason for letting the community in on what MHV is doing is to remind you that there is still time to join one of the five clubs in the county and get busy volunteering. There is just so much to do and with more people volunteering, the easier the load will be. Some of you may not have the physical time to volunteer but you can contribute materials and funds. Whatever way you decide to participate, call the extension office at 601-445-8201 and let the staff know what you want to do or how you want to get involved in MHV.

MHV is alive and well here in Adams county and there are members who work diligently to represent our area. Thanks to the leadership that we have in our council and a special thanks to Dr. Carter and his support staff at the extension office.
