JONESVILLE — Layton Poole, Wade Simpson and winning pitcher Jacob Beatty combined for a no-hitter and Dillon Smith hit three home runs as the Ferriday 11- and 12-year-old All-Stars got back on track at the Major League South Sub-District 5 Tournament with a 14-0 win over Madison Sunday afternoon.

Poole pitched the first two innings and struck out six batters. Simpson came in in the third inning and struck out the side. Beatty struck out two batters in the fourth inning. Oddly enough, the no-hitter occurred just 24 hours after South Franklin pounded Ferriday pitching to the tune of 31 hits in a 16-9 win.

In the South Franklin-Ferriday game, Ethan Baff hit a grand slam home run in the top of the fifth inning — one of six home runs South Franklin had in the game.

Smith hit his first home run of the game in the bottom of the first inning as Ferriday jumped out to a 3-0 lead. He then hit two home runs during an 11-run scoring surge in the bottom of the third that gave Ferriday the 14-0 lead.

Beatty helped his own cause by going 2-for-3 with a triple and Simpson was 2-for-2 with a double. Ferriday will look to go 2-1 as it takes on Catahoula today at 8 p.m. in this five-team round-robin tournament.

The Vidalia 11- and 12-year-old All-Stars got off to a good start in the tournament with a 13-2 win over Catahoula Saturday night. Austin Chauvin was the winning pitcher for Vidalia, which takes on Madison today at 6 p.m.
