NATCHEZ — Severe weather is expected to strike the Miss-Lou from Friday afternoon to Saturday morning.
The largest thunderstorm activity for the Miss-Lou will be Saturday from approximately 4 a.m. to 11 a.m., as the spring storm system hits across the Arkansas, Louisiana and Mississippi region this weekend. There will be potential for tornadoes during this period, along with hail and wind gusts.
From 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday the north side of Natchez to Greenwood will see the heaviest rainfall as thunderstorms blanket the area.
A lull in the weather is expected from 8 p.m. Friday to 3 a.m. Saturday and sometime Saturday afternoon the storm is expected to be pushed eastward.
Over the period, two to four inches of rain is expected.
Adams County Emergency Management Director Stan Owens Jr. said he has checked his equipment and is confident everything is working.
“This is the first significant weather event of this season,” Owens said. “I want the general public to be aware, monitor the weather activity and make sure to be ready and careful.”
Owens said flash-floods would not be likely for the area, but he still warned people to be safe on the roads.
Owens also asked that people to sign up for the Code Red Weather Program at 601-442-7021. When the National Weather Service bulletins fall within your selected address, the Code Red Weather Program will call and update you on the weather conditions.
