BROOKHAVEN — Wesson 10-year-old All-Stars Mac McQuage and Mack Smith combined to hold Natchez scoreless in the final three innings in an 8-5 win Tuesday night at the District 6 District Tournament.

After Quinton Logan hit a three-run home run in the bottom of the third inning to tie the game at 5-5, McQuage, who pitched the first four innings and Smith, who pitched the final two innings, kept Natchez off the scoreboard while Wesson scored one run in the top of the fifth and two in the top of the sixth.

Two critical errors by Natchez in the top of the fifth enabled Wesson to score what proved to be the game-winning run. Lester Wells pitched a good game for Natchez as he struck out 10 Wesson batters.

Natchez took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning when Quinton Logan singled in Trey Fleming. That lead did not last long as Wesson answered in the top of the second when Colby Porter’s single to right field scored Peyton Hood and Jose Alexander.

Benjamin Hewitt tied the game at 2-2 in the bottom of the second when he doubled in Wells, who got on via a Wesson error. But once again, Wesson had an answered as it scored three runs in the top of the third.

Connor Lowery doubled to score Bolon Tadlock and Brandon Lumley and Lowery later scored on an RBI single by Hood to give the visiting team a 5-2 lead. This time, however, Natchez had responded with Logan’s three run shot that evened the game at 5-5.

Unfortunately, Natchez’s offense couldn’t produce any more runs and Wesson was able to pull away in the final two innings.

Logan ended up with two hits and four RBIs while Hewitt had two hits and one RBI for Natchez. Hood had two hits and one RBI and Lowery had two RBIs for Wesson.
