Vidalia — The Vidalia 9- and 10-year-old Dixie Youth All-Stars’ season came to an end Thursday night when they lost to Monroe 10-7.
Vidalia led 5-2 through three innings before Monroe scored six runs in the top of the fourth.
“We played well but Monroe’s entire lineup can hit very well,” coach Whest Shirley said.
Monroe tacked on five more runs in the fifth but Vidalia held them in the sixth to get a shot at a comeback.
Vidalia’s William Handjis hit a triple to score Dakota Nations. Handjis was able to reach home on a Monroe error.
“We had our chance but we just couldn’t pull it out,” Shirley said.
Vidalia ended the inning with bases loaded.
Monroe will move on to the championship game tonight.
