TWENTY YEARS AGO — Among the record 208 golfers who will be competing for the 1987 Mississippi Golf Association Amateur Championship at the par-71 Hattiesburg Country Club are three golfers from Natchez — Pete Powell, Charles Moroney and Charlie Fife.

TEN YEARS AGO — Caleb Walker his a grand slam home run during an eight-run, six-hit rally in the bottom of the third inning as the Natchez Ace Adams All-Stars rally to defeat Greenville 12-2 to stay in the winner’s bracket of the Dixie Youth 11-12 State Tournament.

FIVE YEARS AGO — Lee Jones shoots a final-round 1-over-par 72 at Duncan Park to finish with a two-day total of 142 for an 11-shot win over Jordan Farmer, his best friend, by 11 shots to become the first three-time winner of the Natchez Junior Golf Championships.
