Fire engulfs van, injures two people at gas station

MAGEE, Miss. (AP) — Two people were injured Friday when a van caught on fire at a Texaco gas station here.

Jackson television station WLBT-TV reported that an Illinois woman and a teenager were injured when a gas pump erupted and caught the van on fire.

Authorities said they were taken to Magee General Hospital. Calls to the hospital weren’t immediately returned.

The woman had started pumping gas and went inside the store. She came out to find the van and the gas pump engulfed in flames.

Magee Police Chief Rickey Davidson said when he arrived on the scene the vehicle was totally engulfed.

He said the Simpson County Sheriff’s Department’s Fire Investigator was handling the case.

Calls to the Sheriff’s department weren’t immediately returned.

The van was destroyed along with some awning above the gas pumps.
