NATCHEZ — The 2007 Guys & Dolls Couples Invitational ended up with two teams in a tie in the championship flight. Yet there was no playoff, not even a scorecard one.

Instead the teams of Lou and Alan Hart and Ronnie and Pam Posey, both from Meridian, were declared co-champions of this event at Beau Pré Country Club after both teams shot the same score on Sunday that they did on Saturday, 7-under-par 65, to finish at 14-under-par 130.

The Poseys had a one-shot lead over the Harts going into their final hole, the par-5 18th. However, the Poseys had to settle for par on the hole and Lou Hart made a 12-foot putt for birdie to force the tie.

“We used my tee shot, my second shot, Lou’s chip shot and Lou’s putt,” Alan Hart said. “We had a good time playing with Ronnie and Pam. We hit the ball good. Lou putted wonderfully.”

And what was amazing about this was that neither team had more than a one-shot lead on the other team the entire 18 holes on Sunday. And even though both husband-and-wife teams are members of the same country club in Meridian, this was the very first time they’ve played against each other in a tournament.

“Like yesterday, we missed some putts we should’ve made,” Ronnie Posey said. “The course is in great shape. The greens are so good, you should make every putt. But we had a lot of fun playing with the Harts. Everyone’s been so gracious.”

Glenn and Cathy Roscoe of Calhoun, La., didn’t play their best golf in the final round as they shot a 4-under-par 68, but that was good enough for a third-place finish in the championship flight with a two-day score of 10-under-par 134.

“It was a tough day,” Cathy Roscoe said. “Yesterday we shot 31 on the front and today we shot 35 on the front. No breaks. We couldn’t putt today.”

One team that did putt quite well on Sunday was the duo of Tommy Geoghgan and Ashley Magee. Just 24 hours after shooting a 78 and finding themselves out of the lead in the first flight, Geoghegan and Magee responded with a bogey-free round of 6-under-par 66 to win the flight with a two-day score of even-par 144.

“We kept it in on the short grass. We hit 16 greens today,” Geoghegan said. “We left a few putts hanging. We played better today. Ashley hit the driver good and putted well. She got us started today. We were 3-under after four holes.”

Robert and Kathleen Garrison, who had the lead in the first flight after shooting a 75 on Saturday, finished in second place after firing an even-par 72 to finish at 3-over 147.
