NATCHEZ — A total of 9,616 of Adams County’s 21,600 registered voters — approximately 45 percent — turned out for Tuesday’s election.

“Things ran very smooth as far as the volume of voters,” district 5 Election Comissioner Mitch Ballard said.

No long lines or extended waits for voters were seen, he said.

An almost 50 percent turnout of — about what the last Presidential election got — is great, Ballard said.

Approximately 1,130 absentee votes were cast and approximately 1,000 affidavit votes were filed Tuesday, Adams County Election Commissioner Larry Gardner said.

“One thousand votes is about 10 percent of an election,” Gardner said. “That can change the course of an election.”

Affidavit ballots are filed by those who have moved into a district or changed their name but did not change their voter registration in time for the election, Ballard said.

Absentee and affadavit votes will be counted sometime later this week, Ballard said.
