FERRIDAY — Ferriday head coach Richard Oliver said he knew what the scenario was for the Trojans heading into Friday night’s LHSAA District 2-2A game against Lakeside.

Holding on to the No. 31 spot in the Class 2A power ratings, Ferriday had to win on senior night at Melz Field to assure itself a playoff spot. Lose to the Warriors, and their season would be over.

Even though the Trojans have just six seniors on this year’s squad, they made sure this would not be their last game of the season as they demolished Lakeside 41-0 to clinch a postseason berth in Oliver’s first season.

With the win, Ferriday improved to 5-5 overall and finished District 2-2A play with a 3-2 record. Lakeside ended its season at 3-7 overall and 0-5 in district play.

Buckeye 42, Vidalia 20

BUCKEYE, La. — Both Buckeye and Vidalia were looking for their first win in LHSAA District 3-3A this season when the Panthers hosted the Vikings in the season-finale Friday night.

Actually, Vidalia was hoping to finally pick up its first win of the season. But Buckeye would have none of it as the Panthers defeated the Vikings to end their season on a positive note.

The Vikings, on the other hand, finished their worst season ever with an 0-10 overall record and an 0-5 record in district play.

Block 36, Northwood-Lena 6 (Thurs.)

JONESVILLE — Block senior running backs Davonte Vault and VaShawn Davis racked up 247 combined yards on the ground and three touchdowns as the Bears routed the Northwood-Lena Gators Thursday night.

Vault finished with 142 yards and one touchdown on eight carries. Davis scored the Bears’ first two touchdowns in the first quarter and he ended up with 105 yards on eight carries. As a team, Block racked up 336 total rushing yards en route to winning the LHSAA District 4-1A championship.

On Senior Night, it wasn’t just the upperclassmen who stepped up for Block. Sophomore quarterback Trevor Vault hooked up with junior wingback Ty’Quentin Bell on a 34-yard touchdown pass midway through the second quarter and then on a two-point conversion after a Mario Bowman 36-yard touchdown run early in the fourth quarter. Vault completed 3 of 10 passes for 45 yards.

Sophomore middle linebacker Damien Barber was the team’s leading tackler with eight.

Next up for Block (6-4, 4-0) is the first round of the Class 1A Playoffs at 7 p.m. Friday. The Bears went into the regular-season finale at No. 16 in the Class 1A power ratings and that may go up after this win.
