WOODVILLE — The Oak Forest Academy Lady Yellow Jackets scored all their runs in the first three innings as they defeated the WCCA Lady Rams 8-3 Friday night.

Oak Forest scored one run in the top of the first before opening the floodgates with five runs in the top of the second. The Lady Yellow Jackets added two runs in the top of the third to take an 8-0 lead.

“The first three innings we were very sluggish, ineffective in our pitch counts and unable to do anything at the bat,” WCCA head coach Ray Olive said. “The last three innings we played a lot better ball.”

With the help of three errors by Oak Forest, WCCA (1-5) scored three runs in the bottom of the fifth to make it an 8-3 game, but the Lady Rams weren’t able to sustain the rally.

“As a team, we need to come together and start a game and be able to finish strong,” Olive said. “We either start on fire and slow down or start out sluggish and come on at the end. That’s been our story all season.”

Oak Forest out-hit WCCA seven to five, with three of those seven hits going for extra bases — two triples and a double. Caroline Walker went 2-for-4 for the Lady Rams.
