Franklin County’s big hit doesn’t come

BROOKHAVEN — Trailing by one run, Franklin County had a golden opportunity to retake the lead with the bases loaded and one out in the top of the fifth inning.

But as was the case for most of the game, the Lady Bulldogs couldn’t get the big hit it needed as they left the bases loaded and ended up losing to the West Lincoln Lady Bears 3-2 Friday afternoon.

“We couldn’t get it out of the infield. We grounded out to the pitcher and flew out to the shortstop,” Franklin County head coach Dana Smith said. “Our batting was the difference.”

Franklin County (2-2) took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning, but West Lincoln scored two runs in the bottom of the second. After a scoreless third inning, the Lady Bulldogs tied the score at 2-2 in the top of the fourth only to see the Lady Bears answer with one run in the bottom of the fourth.

The Lady Bulldogs had 10 hits in the game, but they were spread out as Smith noted. Kacey Smith went 2-for-3 with a double and teammates Melissa McFarland and Destiney Dedaux also went 2-for-3.
