MEADVILLE — Monday afternoon’s game between Class 4A Brookhaven and Class 3A Franklin County was supposed to be the second game between the two teams in less than a week.
Instead, it ended up being the only meeting of the season and, despite getting 10 hits in the game, the Lady Bulldogs couldn’t put any runs on the board and ended up losing to the Lady Panthers 7-0.
“We didn’t come prepared to play,” Franklin County head coach Dana Smith said.
Last Thursday’s junior varsity and varsity games between the Lady Panthers and the Lady Bulldogs at Brookhaven were cancelled because of scheduling conflicts.
The defense for both teams was sloppy as Franklin County (3-3) committed six errors and Brookhaven had five errors. But the Lady Panthers made up for that with a 16-hit attack that was led by winning pitcher Casey Risher and Hannah Lowman, who each went 3-for-3.
The Lady Panthers took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning and added three more runs in the top of the third. The Lady Bulldogs had opportunities to bring runners home, but hit into too many rally-ending groundouts.
Casey Smith and Monea Cameron each went 2-for-3 for Franklin County.
