Election officials finished counting all of the computer tabulated absentee ballots Wednesday afternoon.

With all of the hand counted votes still left to be tabulated, including affidavit and emergency ballots and absentee ballots that could not computer tabulated, it appears that most county races did not change significantly from the Aug. 7 primary results.

In the Adams County circuit clerk’s race M.L. “Binkey” Vines leads Eddie Walker, Donnie Holloway and Wilbur Johnson with 2,688 votes or 27.45 percent of the vote. Walker appears to be headed for a Aug. 28 runoff with Vines with 2,536 votes or 25.90% of the vote. Holloway currently has 2,432 votes and Johnson has 2,134 votes.

Other races of interest include the tax collector’s race where Rose Daniel Johnson and Peter Burns appear headed for a runoff. Johnson leads with 3,928 votes (40.13 percent) to Burns 2,691 votes (27.49 percent).

Before the hand counted votes were tabulated, southern district justice court judge candidate Charlie Vess lacked 31 votes to avoid a runoff. If he gains that amount of votes in the hand count over opponents Danny Barber and Jack Lazarus, he will win re-election.

District 1 Democratic supervisor candidates Mike Lazarus and Mike Smith appear headed for a runoff, as well. So do, District 3 candidates Thomas “Boo” Campbell and Britt Gibson.
