VIDALIA — A Monterey man is in police custody after allegedly causing extensive damage in the Monterey community a week ago.

Jarred C. Mount, 19, 107 Dr. Gibson Road, was arrested Thursday on charges of aggravated criminal damage to property.

The vandalism was discovered last Friday morning.

Among alleged vandalisms committed by Mount were damage to mailboxes and boxes containing communication wiring, Concordia Parish Sheriff’s Office Public Information Officer Kathleen Stevens said.

Mount also allegedly damaged two fire stations, reportedly causing so much damage the stations were unable to respond to a fire on Dr. Gibson Road.

The fire — near Mount’s residence — destroyed a home.

Investigators are currently unsure if the fire was also a part of the vandalism spree, Stevens said.

Sheriff Randy Maxwell said in a press release the investigation into the vandalisms is ongoing.

“Other arrests are pending and we greatly appreciate the public’s input on this case,” he said. “Everyone in Monterey has been extremely helpful with this.”

CPSO Sgt. Eddie Poole and Investigators David Hedrick and Sheila McFarland are investigating the matter.

The Louisiana State Fire Marshal’s Office and the Louisiana State Police are also working on the case.

Anyone with information regarding the vandalism should contact McFarland or Hedrick at 318-336-2200, 318-757-3162 or 318-336-3525.
