CLINTON, La — The Adams County Christian School Lady Rebels went two and out at the 2007 Silliman Lady Wildcats Invitational Fastpitch Tournament Saturday, but head coach Forrest Foster is starting to see good things from this young team.

“We’re showing some improvement. We laid down the bunt well. We had a few more base-runners today,” Foster said. “The girls are finding out how to lay the bunt down. We had one girl lay down a bunt and ended up at third base on an error.”

The ACCS Lady Rebels lost their first game of the day to the Wilkinson County Christian Academy Lady Rams 13-1 and then lost to the Lady Rebels of Amite School Center.

“The problem is still our pitching. We played good defense,” Foster said. “We’re improving on a daily basis. I’m proud of them. They don’t get down on themselves.”

WCCA did not get a single hit in the win against ACCS, the Lady Rebels walked 10 batters, hit six batters and committed four errors.

“ACCS is a young team. They will get better,” WCCA head coach Ray Olive said.

WCCA was shut out in its second game, a 6-0 loss to fastpitch powerhouse and host Silliman Institute and then lost to Bowling Green 6-1 in an elimination game.

In the loss to Silliman, Katelyn P. held the Lady Rams to one hit and went 2-for-2 with two doubles. Danielle T. went 2-for-2 with a double for the Lady Wildcats, who scored all six of their runs in the bottom of the third inning.

“The first game I played my starters one time around and subbed out,” Olive said. “We had a long layover. There was a game that went into extra innings. When we came out for the Silliman game, we weren’t focused. You can’t do that in tournaments. You have to stay focused.”

Heat played a factor in the Silliman game.

“Last week in the (Amite School Center) Tournament, we stayed healthy and stayed fresh. In the second game today, we had three players got hot early,” Olive said. “We played them solid for two innings. Then we had to make some changes in personnel.”

Olive said his team should have done better at the plate against Bowling Green instead of waiting until the last two innings of the five-inning game to get all of its four hits.

The Centreville Academy Lady Tigers had the best showing of the three area teams participating in this tournament. Centreville shut out its first two opponents, Oak Forest Academy 13-0 and Parklane 7-0.
