In a recent Natchez Democrat poll, the question was asked, “Were you surprised by Tuesday’s election results?” The appropriate category for me of “Unbelievable” was not available in the poll options.

For whatever reason, when comparing some local election results against state and national polls, Adams and Jefferson counties seem to be diametrically opposed. Has Southwest Mississippi seceded from the Union again?

The reason for secession prior to the Civil War was because of exorbitant taxes imposed on the South’s lucrative foreign trade with Europe. Why are we seceding now?
