MEADVILLE — Crystal Springs had a 1-0 lead over Franklin County in the top of the first inning. But it didn’t last long as the Lady Dawgs exploded for 14 runs in the bottom of the first inning en route to a 26-4 win in Region 6-3A action.

The unique thing about Thursday afternoon’s contest was that Franklin County (6-4, 1-1) finished with a staggering 32 hits, yet two of its players had no hits at all. The 26 runs and 31 hits were the most runs and hits the Lady Dawgs have had in coach Dana Smith’s three seasons there.

“After the loss to Hazlehurst Tuesday, we practiced hard (Wednesday) and they came out ready to hit today,” Smith said. “They (Crystal Springs) had absolutely no defense. But we hit the ball hard tonight.”

Two innings later, the Lady Dawgs scored eight more runs to make it a 23-2 game. Crystal Springs scored two runs in the top of the fourth inning, but Franklin County answered with three in the bottom of the fourth for a 22-run lead. Thankfully for the Lady Tigers, the Lady Dawgs didn’t have to bat in the bottom of the fifth.

Monea Cameron went 4-for-4 with a home run, Kristen Oglesby and Desiree Buie each went 4-for-4 with a triple and two doubles, and winning pitcher Heather Havard went 4-for-4 with two doubles.
