NATCHEZ — What do catfish noodling, rattlesnakes and concerts have in common?
They’ll all be part of next weekend’s Great Southern Outdoor Expo at the Natchez Convention Center.
The first of its kind in Natchez, the expo will feature everything from outdoor vendors to fishing and river demonstrations in a 4,000-gallon tank.
The expo, hosted by First Natchez Radio Group and sponsored by The Isle of Capri Casino, is aimed at drawing visitors and residents alike on Labor Day weekend, event coordinator René Adams said.
“It’s a huge undertaking,” Adams said. “Our whole goal is to create something happening in downtown Natchez on a holiday weekend.”
Adams said she hopes to have 10,000 people attend the event Friday and Saturday.
The expo is an extension of an aspect of the Miss-Lou’s culture, she said.
“The outdoors is a big part of this entire area,” Adams said. “We’re working really hard to provide neat entertainment, something you don’t just run across every day.”
Don’t think the event is just for hunters, Adams said.
Along with turkey and goose calling demonstrations, the show will feature a rock wall and a virtual ride.
“There’s a little bit of something for everybody,” Adams said.
The weekend will wrap up with a country music concert featuring Daryl Singletary and “Country Boy” Mark Porter, among others.
Tickets for the expo are $6 per person, and admission for the concert is $30 in advance or $35 at the door.
Tickets are available at The Isle of Capri Casino.
